Audioholics
Being an Audioholic does not limit us to audio and video. We all love gadgets and gear.  And I would guess that if you are reading this, chances are you have a camera and probably a laptop computer.  I always travel with both.  And when your Audioholic team travels to trade shows such as CEDIA and CES, we are all armed with digital cameras and laptops - often on the show floor so we can capture and post as much of the action possible.

Such was the case at the most recent CES in Vegas, where I was cruising the halls with my laptop bag and my digital SLR bag weighing me down.  When I passed by the Lowepro booth, I stopped in for a look at how I might consolidate, and I am glad I did.

Lowepro Vertex 200 AW
DitigalSQL Editor's Choice Award
"Quite possibly, the best photo backpack I've ever used."
Deniel Lezano, Editor

"...It's clear from the moment you unpack it that it's been made for serious use, the exterior feels hard-wearing and the plethora of zips (sealed to prevent water getting inside) are an indication of the number of compartments it conceals.
The main section is very spacious and deep, with over a dozen compartments separated by adjustable, padded walls. This means there is plenty of room for you to be able to fit in a couple of cameras, up to six lenses and still have space for a flashgun and other accessories.

And that's just the start. On the inner side of the front compartment are five small pockets to hold smaller accessories like filters, batteries, lens clothes etc. The main area of this front section is padded out to hold a laptop computer, which is good news, as it means you don't have to access the main camera gear area as with some other models." PMA 2007: Day One - Imaging Accessories
marketnews
"Of course the show isn't just all about the cameras and camcorders that capture memories: accessories of every kind were abound, including everything from batteries and chargers, to printers, photo frames, and editing software. Of the many protective cases and backpacks at the show, none stood out like Lowepro's 40th anniversary, special edition backpack that serves a purpose far beyond just housing a professional photographer's equipment. A percentage of the profits made from the sale of each bag will go toward funding Polar Bears International research and efforts to conserve the species. Outfitted in an attractive blue finish with a tiny polar bear stitched into the front pocket, the bag was the recipient of many "ooh's" and "aah's" at the show." - Marketnews.ca, March 2007.
PMA 2007: Lowepro Unveils Vertex Photo Backpacks; Napoli Camera Pouches "Lowepro unveiled its new Vertex Series of backpacks at PMA 2007, designed for professional photographers who shoot in rugged, outdoor environments. Digital Camera Review
"Lowepro is celebrating their 40 year anniversary this year and doing some great environmentally conscious things. They showed me their pro-level backpack, the Primus AW, which is very impressive. Probably the best part about the bag is that part of the profits will go to Polar Bears International and 51% of each bag is made from recycled post-consumer waste. It will be available this summer for $280." - Digital Camera Review.com, March 2007.
Bag-maker Lowepro turns 40
Macworld
"To celebrate its 40th anniversary, bag-maker Lowepro has introduced the $280 Primus AW, an all-weather camera backpack designed for professional photographers.

At last week's PMA digital photography conference in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to get a closer look at the new bag, and I have to say I was impressed. Not just because the bag was designed to be environmentally friendly-it's made from 51 percent recycled material, the equivalent of 22 soda bottles-but also because of the attention to detail that went into its design.

Slingshot 300 AW
 ThinkCamera
When you think about a camera bag, there  are really only 3 things that matter:

Will it  hold your gear?

Is it  well made for its price?

Does it suit you?

I've had the Slingshot 300 AW from Lowepro on test. This has a novel asymmetric design. You carry it by a single shoulder strap that runs across your body backed up by a chunky waist belt for when you are carrying lots of gear. Unclip the waist belt and you can swivel the bag around your body and open it without taking it off your back. The main compartment sits sideways in the bag so that when  you swivel it round you are accessing it through the top. The 300 is currently the biggest of the range and "AW" means there's a pull out rain cover for when the going gets wet. - ThinkCamera.com, February, 2007

Lowepro SlingShot 300 AW

While I understand the utilitarian purpose of backpacks, I've never been a huge fan of photo backpacks for a simple reason: You have to stop and take the thing off to get the lens or gadget you want. And when you take it off of your shoulders, it has to lie it down somewhere. If you are outside, the part that will be next to your back in a few minutes is down in the dirt. Or the mud. Or the snow and slush. Or if you are really unlucky, all four! It's even worse if you are doing industrial photography. This all makes for a fine argument for traveling very light, but unfortunately that isn't always possible.
Lowepro's SlingShot family of bags (three model sizes: the 100, 200 and 300) are designed to keep the gear on you and still make it accessible. How do they do it? By eliminating one strap and having the remaining strap run from the upper right to the lower left corner, the bag can rotate from your back to your chest by pulling it around your torso from underneath your left arm. You open up the main compartment via the U-shaped zipper track and pull the camera directly out. Smaller items need a little more care when removing or inserting, but it isn't anything you won't get the hang of in a minute or less. - Professional Photographer.com, February 2007.

"The Lowepro SlingShot 100 camera bag is perfect for loading a digital SLR, a small video camera and other accessories for a day of work, vacation or leisure photography. The bag can easily rotate from your back to your front where pouches open easily for quick access. I had no problems loading a Canon 20D digital camera; a Canon Elura MiniDV digital camcorder; and extra tapes, memory, mini-tripod, batteries and chargers. The bag is extremely well-designed, with padding all the way around for excellent comfort. A built-in memory card holder was handy, as were the raincoat and monopod holder." - Star Telegram, December 2006

"Lowepro happens to manufacturer the best camera bag we've ever owned. We've been using it for years and wouldn't dream of parting with it. It's simply the best. However, after 30 years of innovation, Lowepro refuses to rest on its laurels... it just beefs up its R&D and then surprises everyone. Lowepro SlingShot 200 AW and Lowepro Toploader 70 AW
TechnologyTNT
"Both the SlingShot 200 AW and the Toploader 70 AW are built to very nicely protect your digital SLR that have long lenses.  Both of the cases are beautifully designed with pockets for cords and memory cards.  The major difference between the two cases is size and methods of carrying them.  The SlingShot 200 AW can be worn slung around your back, side or front and has loads of pockets for other items.  The Toploader 70 AW is used mostly to carry just the camera and a few accessories.  This makes it much smaller than the SlingShot 200 AW.  We like the features of both cases so if you have lots of equipment and accessories the SlingShot 200 AW is for you but if you have just a camera and a few items then the Toploader 70 AW is our recommendation." --

Lowepro's DryZone Rover: The Outdoor Photographer's Dream Daypack
ShutterBug
"After a week under Curacao's sun, carrying around just under 20 lbs of gear and accessories in this fashionable yellow-and-black Lowepro DryZone Rover, my shoulders and back did not complain; I could easily have gone another week.  The bag proved as comfortable as the Nature Trekker AW II, if not more so and I had thought the Nature Trekker AW II would be a touch act to follow.  Also, the closed bag's low center of gravity means the DryZone Rover stand up on its own so I didn't have to worry about it toppling over when it was set on the ground.  And to think, I almost opted for another bag on this trip. The DryZone Rover proved its mettle.  It will be accompanying me on many more adventures." -- Shutterbug Magazine November 2006
Lowepro DryZone Rover: Caters to both the adventurous photographers and avid anglers

"A backpack for anglers that will carry fishing gear, has a hydration system, and is 100% waterproof for sure protection of your expensive camera or electronics...too good to be true? Introducing the Lowepro DryZone Rover, a camera bag with a water-resistant and a waterproof compartment to keep your investment dry while you're out on your fishing adventures. I came upon the DryZone Rover while searching for a weatherproof bag to protect my digital SLR camera and lenses while traveling to fishing destinations in any type of weather condition. After setting eyes on the DryZone Rover and further analyzing it, this backpack had the design that matched my needs as an angler, photographer, and adventurer -- TackleTour, August 2006

As a professional photographer and avid traveler, I am always lamenting my need to carry heavy and fragile photography equipment with me wherever I go. Scuba Diving Magazine: Lowepro
Text and Photography by Stephen Frink "I am a big Lowepro enthusiast, traveling with their Dry Zone 100 for environmentally challenging conditions, and the Lowepro wheeled bags for carrying gear aboard the aircraft. I'm now using a Road Runner AW. Suzanne Caballero showed me their new Dry Zone offering, the Dry Zone Rover, complete with hydration pack integrated. Water, water all around; and now more than a drop to drink as well. Of course, the drinking water pack can be removed as well, leaving a very clever bag that offers dry suit zippers on some compartments for extraordinary protection in a soft backpack configuration." -- ScubaDiving.com, March 2006
