"Lowepro presents its new line of Vertex backpacks for transporting photographic equipment and accessories. Vertex counts with three models: Vertex 100 AW, 200 AW and 300 AW, the difference being size and capacity. Because of its resistance and capacity, these backpacks were designed for professional photographers, adventure photographers and photojournalists. They are light weight and feature a Glide-Lock system for carrying tripods as well as a SlipLock system for additional lens cases or accessories. In addition, the backpack features easy front access to accessories and personal equipment and rugged construction with water resistant zippers and an improved All Weather cover, a Lowepro exclusive." Such was the case at the most recent CES in Vegas, where I was cruising the halls with my laptop bag and my digital SLR bag weighing me down. When I passed by the Lowepro booth, I stopped in for a look at how I might consolidate, and I am glad I did.

"...It's clear from the moment you unpack it that it's been made for serious use, the exterior feels hard-wearing and the plethora of zips (sealed to prevent water getting inside) are an indication of the number of compartments it conceals.
The main section is very spacious and deep, with over a dozen compartments separated by adjustable, padded walls. This means there is plenty of room for you to be able to fit in a couple of cameras, up to six lenses and still have space for a flashgun and other accessories.
And that's just the start. On the inner side of the front compartment are five small pockets to hold smaller accessories like filters, batteries, lens clothes etc. The main area of this front section is padded out to hold a laptop computer, which is good news, as it means you don't have to access the main camera gear area as with some other models." At last week's PMA digital photography conference in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to get a closer look at the new bag, and I have to say I was impressed. Not just because the bag was designed to be environmentally friendly-it's made from 51 percent recycled material, the equivalent of 22 soda bottles-but also because of the attention to detail that went into its design.
Will it hold your gear?
Is it well made for its price?
Does it suit you?
I've had the Slingshot 300 AW from Lowepro on test. This has a novel asymmetric design. You carry it by a single shoulder strap that runs across your body backed up by a chunky waist belt for when you are carrying lots of gear. Unclip the waist belt and you can swivel the bag around your body and open it without taking it off your back. The main compartment sits sideways in the bag so that when you swivel it round you are accessing it through the top. The 300 is currently the biggest of the range and "AW" means there's a pull out rain cover for when the going gets wet. - ThinkCamera.com, February, 2007
Lowepro's SlingShot family of bags (three model sizes: the 100, 200 and 300) are designed to keep the gear on you and still make it accessible. How do they do it? By eliminating one strap and having the remaining strap run from the upper right to the lower left corner, the bag can rotate from your back to your chest by pulling it around your torso from underneath your left arm. You open up the main compartment via the U-shaped zipper track and pull the camera directly out. Smaller items need a little more care when removing or inserting, but it isn't anything you won't get the hang of in a minute or less. - Professional Photographer.com, February 2007.

Everything
You Need for Travel
"When you want one camera bag that provides everything you need for
travel, take a look at the Lowepro Rolling
CompuTrekker AW. Use its top handle to carry it, padded backpack straps to
wear it, or in-line skate wheels to roll it. If the weather turns foul, pull out
its all-weather cover to keep both bag and equipment dry. Need to go for a hike
with your tripod? Expose its hidden tripod holder and attach your "sticks" to
the outside of the bag. Oh, and want to bring your 12" or 15" laptop? No
problem, there's space for that too." -- The Digital Story.com, May 19, 2006

Text and Photography by Stephen Frink "I am a big Lowepro enthusiast, traveling with their Dry Zone 100 for environmentally challenging conditions, and the Lowepro wheeled bags for carrying gear aboard the aircraft. I'm now using a Road Runner AW. Suzanne Caballero showed me their new Dry Zone offering, the Dry Zone Rover, complete with hydration pack integrated. Water, water all around; and now more than a drop to drink as well. Of course, the drinking water pack can be removed as well, leaving a very clever bag that offers dry suit zippers on some compartments for extraordinary protection in a soft backpack configuration." -- ScubaDiving.com, March 2006
