Mirjam Evers using a DryZone 200
Mirjam Evers, an internationally acclaimed travel photographer, will share her experience of documenting cultures and exotic locations from all around the world. As well as exploring extreme environments such as Antarctica and third world countries, Mirjam has been producing photography workshops around the world, and has created an extensive portfolio of images that will be shown during her lecture. She will also discuss how to approach people to photograph them and capture great environmental portraits, the use of different lenses (fisheye, Lensbabies, etc), and unique technique she uses for off camera flash.
Mirjam's style of capturing people uses a unique perspective by experimenting with different angles, lighting and lenses to keep her photographs interesting. But perhaps most importantly, Mirjam truly enjoys connecting with people and exploring new and different cultures. She believes that by approaching people with warmth and an open mind is very important for getting close to your subject's face to shoot a photo. Spending time with people before photographing them to absorb their environment and allow them to get comfortable provides the perfect opportunity to ask, sometimes with a gesture or in their language, "Can I take your picture?"
After Mirjam's presentation, stay to learn about Lowepro's functional and bomb-proof camera bags to keep your gear safe as you go on your own adventures. Lowepro will also raffle off one of their legendary bags to a lucky Event Space attendee.
Mirjam has been producing photography workshops for almost five years and has produced and ran close to 100 workshops all over the world. During the workshops, she learned from every single pro photographer but feels her work changed mostly when she worked with Dave Black and Tom Bol. They taught her location lighting and their best tricks for capturing unique photos. Her travel and extensive exposure to different cultures over the years has also opened her eyes to the needs of the world. She will be teaching a workshop this year for a company called "Photo Quest Adventures"(photoquestadventures.com) a unique photography company dedicated to "Giving Back" and making a difference in the world through photography. She is currently the Executive Producer for The Eddie Adams Workshop organizing every detail of their annual 4 day Tuition free intensive workshop on Oct. 10-13,2008 for students and young professionals focusing on photojournalism.
