"Photography is a way for me to show my imagination, my feelings and the progress of my life, which involves the culture of Java, interest in paintings and a love of classical music. I incorporate the smoothness and tenderness of Javanese life in the model's poses. The brush strokes of portrait paintings inspire my lighting style, and classical music helps me create the visual concept. I want whoever sees my photographs to feel my imagination and the emotion of the images."

Darwis creates ethereal fashion images for an international audience. In the newest of his three books, Terra Incognita Tropicale, (with exhibitions in Bali and Paris) he combines infra-red nudes and landscape photography.
