Kennan: "We travel worldwide, seven continents since 1983 to film motion and stills but Alaska is our favorite place. Fall is beautiful up here, very peaceful and contemplative. We spend several months in the field with the bears."
Karen: "Time is our most important tool in discovering nature. Photographing natural behavior requires learning in depth about the animals and the landscape. A photo can communicate behavior more clearly than words."
More than photographers, Kennan and Karen Ward work diligently to preserve the wilderness they love by publishing and sharing images of animals and lands that are threatened. They have produced five books, including The Last Wilderness: Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. Currently they also produce documentary films together in the field, Kennan and Karen have photographed their way across all seven continents, dozens of countries and hundreds of national parks and protected and wilderness areas.
