Steve McCurry is a member of Magnum Photos and a distinguished photographer known worldwide for his iconic image of Sharbat, a young Afghan refugee who was on the cover of the June 1985 cover of National Geographic. He has published nine books, the most recent, In the Shadow of the Mountains, showcases previously unpublished images of Afghanistan and its people. Steve has been awarded the Robert Capa Gold Medal for Exceptional Courage and Enterprise, and numerous other prestigious awards for his outstanding images.
