Coral reforestation project at Fiji’s Kaibu Island

With the support of Lowepro and their incredible Pro Trekker 650 I had the privilege of documenting something deeply meaningful alongside my family—coral planting on Kaibu Island in Fiji.

Kaibu is a place of pristine beauty—crystal-clear waters, untouched beaches, and abundant marine life. But what struck me most on this journey was not only the island’s natural wonder, but the unwavering commitment to preserving it for the future and its surrounding Islands of Fiji.

Together with the dedicated team at Kaibu and the inspiring marine biologist Kate Miller, we set out with a shared purpose: to restore and nurture the coral reefs that form the heartbeat of this marine ecosystem, while also teaching our children the importance of protecting them. Coral reefs are far more than stunning underwater landscapes; they are home to countless species, act as natural barriers against coastal erosion, and play a vital role in maintaining the balance of our oceans. Sadly, they are under immense threat from warming waters and human impact.

The process of coral planting is both scientific and meditative. Healthy coral fragments are carefully placed onto structures designed to support their growth. Over time, these small pieces will form thriving reef communities, breathing new life into areas that have suffered.

Watching the team work with such precision and care was humbling. Each fragment planted from my children and the team felt like an act of hope—an investment in tomorrow. As a photographer, this journey went beyond capturing images. It was about telling the story of resilience and collaboration—humans working hand-in-hand with nature to heal what has been lost over the years.

"FOR ME, PHOTOGRAPHY IS THE LANGUAGE I USE TO TRANSLATE THE OCEAN’S SILENT BEAUTY INTO A MESSAGE THE WORLD CAN HEAR."

- Craig Parry

Sharing this experience with Kate Miller made it even more profound. Her energy and commitment to conservation are inspiring, a reminder that every action—big or small—matters in shaping a healthier planet.

As we wrapped up I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. This trip was not just about witnessing beauty, but about being part of something larger—a movement to safeguard that beauty for generations to come.

Lowepro aligns closely with my environmental values through its commitment to sustainability and responsible innovation. As someone deeply invested in preserving the natural world, I appreciate that Lowepro designs gear with durability and longevity in mind, reducing the need for replacement and minimising waste.

This shared ethos allows me to confidently partner with Lowepro, knowing that the tools I use to capture and share the beauty of our planet are created with the same respect for the environment that drives my own work.

PRO TREKKER 650 II IN ACTION

For his coral reforestation mission in Fiji, Craig Parry trusted the Lowepro Pro Trekker 650 II to carry and protect his gear across rugged terrain and coastal environments. Its generous capacity housed multiple camera bodies, underwater housings, and lenses, while the ActivLift System™ harness provided ergonomic support during long treks across beaches and reefs.

The All Weather AW Cover™ shielded his equipment from tropical rain and salt spray, and the MaxFit™ dividers kept everything organized for quick access. In a project where environmental sensitivity and gear reliability were paramount, the Pro Trekker 650 AW II proved to be an indispensable companion.
