DOCUMENTING VANISHING ICE
Professional photographer and Lowepro ambassador Paul Zizka has travelled to countless places on the planet, from the peaks of the Canadian Rockies, to iceberg-laden seas off the coast of Greenland. He’s seen first-hand the effects of rapid change in glaciers as a consequence of rising global temperatures.
The risk of our polar regions and glaciers melting is real, with long-term human and environmental consequences, and the loss of an exceptional, powerful experience in these icy and pristine landscapes.
This led to the launch of Paul Zizka’s latest project, Cryophilia, an effort to document the rapid changes in glaciers and to celebrate the beauty of glacial ice in Canada and around the globe.

THE MISSION
Paul Zizka, a professional photographer based in the Canadian Rockies, shows us two things while at the Athabasca glacier: the beauty of these icy landscapes but also their rapid changes.
It seems we’re only decades, maybe even a decade, away from some of this ice disappearing altogether. Some of the ice featured in Paul Zizka’ photographs taken just a few years ago has already gone. With rising temperatures, the world's polar regions and glaciers are at risk of melting.
THE PROJECT: CRYOPHILIA
Cryophilia is Paul Zizka’ pursuit to document vanishing ice around the globe, bringing awareness to vanishing ice through the capturing of changing landscapes and ice features around the world.
