How to Shorten Webbing Straps and Finish the Ends
Hello, adventurers! Today, we're going to show you how to shorten webbing straps and finish the ends, ensuring your bag fits perfectly and remains functional.
Materials Needed:
• Scissors
• Lighter
• Needle and thread
Steps to Shorten and Finish Webbing Straps:
1. Measure and Cut:

• Wear your heaviest clothing to ensure the straps fit in all seasons.

• Leave extra length for adjustments and a stopper.
• Cut the webbing straight across with the grain for a clean edge.
2. Finish the Edges:

• Use a lighter to melt the raw edge, preventing fraying.
• Move the flame slowly along the edge until it shrinks and melts. Make sure your hands/body are not under the webbing in case it drips when it melts!
• Optionally, pinch the melted edge with pliers for a smoother finish.
3. Add a Stopper:

• Fold back about 2 cm of the webbing and sew it down to prevent slipping.
• Start sewing from the center to help prevent the ends fraying
• You can also use a rivet or eyelet if preferred.
Extra Tips:
• Cut less initially and test the fit before cutting more.
• Ensure you’re in a well-ventilated area when using an open flame… and have water nearby just in case! 😊 Safety first!
• Use a sewing machine if available, but ensure it can handle multiple layers of webbing.
By following these steps, you’ll have a neatly shortened webbing strap that won’t fray or slip out of place. Happy crafting!
