I'm Guy Fattal, and I come from the rolling hills of Jerusalem, Israel.
Eight years ago, I relocated to Whistler, Canada, a haven for outdoor adventurers. Known for its world-class ski resort and year-round mountain access, Whistler is a magnet for thrill-seekers from every corner of the globe.
A PASSION FOR THE PEAKS AND PHOTOGRAPHY
As an outdoor enthusiast, I've always been captivated by expansive landscapes and the mountains. It was only natural for me to merge my lifelong passion for photography with my love for the outdoors. Add to this my love for outdoor sports like skiing and running, and I found my calling: Capturing athletes in action against the backdrop of stunning natural landscapes.
THE THRILL OF THE PERFECT CAPTURE
When I’m out in the mountains photographing professional athletes, my objective is to seamlessly blend human performance with the surrounding terrain. I often find myself contemplating how to position my subject within the landscape to elevate the image and elicit a 'wow' response from viewers. This is no simple feat.
We're often at the mercy of unpredictable factors like weather, lighting, and snow conditions. Many times, I return from a full day’s shoot with nothing to show for it. But when you invest enough time in these majestic mountains, they reward your perseverance. Nothing compares to the exhilaration of capturing that one, elusive moment where everything aligns—the landscape, the lighting, and the athlete in action.
My connection with the mountains deepens with each visit. The ever-changing light and seasons ensure that each trip offers a new perspective and a fresh opportunity for creation. No two days are alike, giving me an endless canvas to work with.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL CALL: A PHOTOGRAPHER'S DUTY
Residing in Whistler has given me a front-row seat to the rising popularity of mountain exploration, a trend that fuels my own creative fire. Yet, I’ve also seen firsthand—and heard from older generations—how our natural world is undergoing rapid change. Glaciers are retreating at alarming rates, and weather patterns are increasingly erratic.
As the years pass, I've come to recognize the crucial role photographers play in environmental conservation. We have the unique ability to document these changes and inspire action through our work. The photos we take not only celebrate our love for the outdoors but also serve as cautionary tales about the planet we inhabit. It's our duty to share these stories and advocate for responsible stewardship of our world for the generations that will follow us.
